In 1986 kom die fliek “Top Gun” uit. Dit is die fliek wat Tom Cruise se loopbaan gemaak het. Dit het die klankbaan van die laat 80’s bepalend beïnvloed met treffers soos (Highway to the) Danger Zone, Take my breath away en You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling. Vandag nog dra mense Rayban’s en “bomber jackets”. Maar die grootste invloed van hierdie fliek is ‘n frase wat Tom Cruise se karakter – Maverick – op ‘n stadium gebruik: I feel the need… the need… for speed!
